Just as I was about to pack up after taking the shot shown in High Force #1 I heard the sound of voices – three men were coming down the closed-off pathway from the top of the falls. They got to the gate and nonchalantly clambered over. Chatting, I found out that the reason the gate was locked was just because with the hotel and kiosks closed there was no-one else who could be bothered to open it up every day during the Winter months. Apparently the views from the top were good but they did advise that the paths were very slippery & muddy and advised against taking the dog. I wasn’t too bothered about the aerial view but after they had gone I decided to climb over the gate myself to get the shot I really wanted nearer the water.
This time I have left the shot in colour. Fortunately as I was composing the frame I noticed that the clouds had parted just enough to let a little sunlight catch the rocks in front of me.
